To a building, materials are one of the important things that need to consist, and without material, a building can’t be built. Materiality and immateriality bring an important role to architecture today as they used in design a building. Materiality used to be an object that it is only used for what it used to be. Just like a brick, a brick only can be a brick, can’t be other things else. Immateriality is an idea that can express an idea of an architect. As today, architect tried to conceptualize the ideas into designs by manipulating material to achieve a spatial aim.

Materiality and immateriality are mostly part of the perception of a human. A human can feel the material if they touch it, see it or became aware of something through the senses. Just like an architect, an architect can create a new design concept by knowing the material.

Perception of an architect can accurately choose the right material for a building and let it become a building that suitable for its surrounding. In this case, materiality and immateriality influence the perception of a human to feel what the architect felt.
