“宁要浦西一张床,不要浦东一间房” - Mr Samuel Wong

Direct translation : Rather have a bed in Pu Xi , than having a room in Pu Dong

Before he start off introducing the successful project in China , he briefly explain the history of Shanghai as the late bloomer and late developed city .The province at that time are very different from each other in term of growth and stability as people in Shanghai would rather buy a room in Pu Xi than having a shelter in Pu Dong . To be short , it's not all of the part of Shanghai are progressing at that time .

In the end , Shanghai is able to catch up fast and progressing very quickly and Shanghai end up to be the most developed city in China . Mr Samuel is honored to be able to work in Shanghai before he move on to the Hangzhou , a state in China .

  Mr.Samuel :
"I am very lucky to be part of this development"

How it happen  . . .?

In his talk , he start off explaining the building design on how it come to this shape . The multi-towers has the twists shape which it separate elements from one formal gesture . The reason for the twisting concept , there's two element; landscape and urban context . The urban element of the project twists towards the landscape, whilst the landscape aspect, in turn, twists towards the urban context, thereby creating the obvious twisting and abnormal shape .

Consideration....

I like they include the considering of the surrounding and site content into the design development . Mr Samuel introduce the main attraction of Hangzhou , QianTang River , which located next to the building . The river is known for its world largest tidal bore , where millions of people will gather here to witness the natural phenomenon . The consideration they established , grant the building an extra bonus for the attraction of the surrounding . In other bonuses , the twin-towers of Raffles City will able to view this phenomenon annually .

Mr Samuel also mentioned the design of the twisted building enable the view from the tower able to observe all part of the river and also the urban area . The east-west orientation of the building also allow the maximization of daylight enter the building for the residential and offices uses . These speculation are good before designing the actual building .

D E V E L O P M E N T   &    P R O C E S S   ....

Mr Samuel explained the design development on how will building works , how it will correspond to each other , how it can link as one . All that to be done with prominently the circulation , which maximized the potential of uses in the building

The three-nodes on the diagram , they attempt to locate where is the focal point and the unification . connecting them as one-linked building . The building consist of three major structure ; The first tower , second tower and the mall , which each corresponded to one node each

The building is built as a modern urban hub , where the function is to provide : residential . working and leisure at the same time . As a whole , the towers serves as the office and residential and the bottom part serves as a shopping mall for leisure purposes .Mr Samuel point out that the building is linked together , where elevator platform in each floor connected , from the top to the bottom . The access from one tower to another tower is thru the top of the mall . Users are able to access the floors by floors with the good circulation availability in the Raffles City .

Toward a more sustainable world ....

Mr Samuel mentioned the building is to be build as a sustainable building .The ability of this building to use daylight principle , which has never been done by any high-rise building has earn him a big name in construction industry . Also , they earn GOLD LEED certification . The uses of daylighting enable the low consumption of energy and sustain a longer lifespan .

He talk about the commitment and the competitive of the workers that take part in this construction , which lead him to push harder to learn and cope with the culture and working style in China that is very different from our mother land . He is able to learn alot of skill from the architect there and wish to share with us more about it .

Q&A Session :

Q1: Is this project considered as a high speed development in China?

Q2: Do you encourage students to study overseas or graduated to intern overseas?
A2: Is is very differnet when u start to open up ur eyes in other countries, it will be tougher but it is always a good chance to learn more, thats why I keep applying to go overseas.

Q3: What should we prepare or learn in advance when intended to go overseas?
A3: " Rhino " is a program that is widely used in China industry, if China, " Rhino " will be the one u need to handle advance.
