The building i'm choosing is from semester 3 which is to design an art station.

I believe everything start from a point either it is continues or enclose. Thus, I extract the line from the central which is the interior courtyard to the outside. From the plan it will show 8 space divided equally. But for the purpose to different the office area and the art station. I substrate 2 space from the circle and replace it with a regular space. So from the plan, it show the contrast strongly. And it divide the zone too.

The regular zone will be larger than the radius of the circle due to different the store room with the gallery zone 1. The regular zone will be facing north which having a government hospital opposite it. As I consider that the side to have negative view. As hospital might bring a negative feeling and mood to visitor. So I’m placing it to facing north. For the regular area, which it contain an art studio, a minimum area of surau for female and male after consider the need for the stuff in art station and toilets on the other side and office area on top of it.

The most interesting part about this zone is it connected to exterior as consider about the visitor from the park. Instead of ignoring the need of visitor from urban it is better to consider the need of human from inside and outside the building.

After the subtraction, there will be 4 space for art gallery, one space for exterior art gallery and a cafeteria. There is a gap between each other art gallery. It is function as the blank zone from interior. As the area for this art station is way smaller than Balai Seni so there will be limited space as blank zone. I define the blank zone as the feeling after finish viewing an art until he reach another art work.

Each of the art gallery having their own interior garden which function as reducing the stress and there’s bench for resting area. Which consider for different age of visitor and it is a place which sit down when you want to focus more.  The line of interior garden also start from the center point. In between of the wall and interior garden will have a timber floor finished which continue the line from the center point. The using of timber is to bring in the natural from the urban into the gallery and at the same time, it connect interior and exterior as well. And it is facing to the urban which attract human from exterior to interior and same time human from interior to exterior.

                         TIMBER PANEL WITH CURVE ELEMENT

There will be timber panel in the middle of the gallery which continue the idea of center point. The timber panel will be combination of the regular and curve which represent the art gallery. And I believe the architecture telling art too. They telling the art silently. And I like to bring in the lighting effect into the building as nature play a good role in art too. The shadow from the sun through the panel and the design on it show the beauty of lighting. As Louis Kahn the great architecture who play well with lighting and shadow. “The sun never know how great it was until it hit the side of a building.”

After 3 gallery zone, visitor will pass by the exterior art gallery and café then only reaching the last or the first gallery which juxtaposed with gallery because this gallery will having display those ancient art. A building should not limit human movement as they want. So the visitor can go from left either right.

Back to the center point, there will be huge art work display. As it is the center area, there will be glass surrounding it which the material is steel and glass with having the same design as the timber panel. The main purpose of this area is to attract and improve the communication of human.

            

          The arrangement of café is juxtaposed with exterior art gallery as they influence each other. The café is having the view toward the exterior art gallery and the theater at the urban. This three space is playing an important role in the urban that’s why they are facing to the south. The theater will be in semi round so the stage can be facing to the café. Try to imagine, people enjoying the performing while facing hospital. It is nonsense!

            The building height will be decreasing from the gallery till the exterior art gallery. The highest area in this building will the office area as there’s the only area which having first floor. Different art gallery will have different height as well. It is special designed for the requirement of the art.

            

             The elevation for regular area which facing north and west will have a special design on the wall which continue from the timber panel. The opening will be special design due to the curve.it bring in the curve element to the wall.

            

              Roof for regular area will be metal sheet and art gallery will have tensile sheet as roofing. The using material of the tensile is influence by Laman Seni 7 which is not far from the site. It show the connection and similar material. And the metal sheet will be design in tensile sheet shape to accomplish the design as one.

                                                     STUDY MODEL

            Open area for the gallery. The major materials of this building is brick which painted in white. As the floor will be in concrete except the timber floor. By this, the space will be showing clean and relax. And the building is design according form follow function then only aesthetic.

            The art station will be hierarchy against surrounding building as it is the only building which having combination of circle and regular form. The purpose of the form is as to be outstanding and attract attention.

            The urban is abstract from the center line as well and having a circle path at the end of the site. The road is special design in round as well as to make the site totality.

The building form is combining two element which is curve and regular to show different use of the space. And each of the space is using each other characteristic as the exterior wall of regular form is having organic opening while the round geometry form is having straight element on the opening panel design. Both of them is trying to be in one as the implication of totality which them trying to fusion and yet juxtaposition to each other.

There’s always a comparison between simplicity and complexity. Simplicity has complex meaning and idea behind of it yet complexity has define from simplicity. As I designed this building there’s too much of ornament to enrich the expression such as the organic window on geometry wall.

And the building is speaking in two language such as the form and the material of the roof but yet they become hierarchy.

“More is not less.” As the different form and materials enrich the building. The idea behind a complexity building might be simple but when the combine of different ideas, it become complex and they begin a new story.
